Fashion at the Oscars

Once again the Oscars’ set the bar for fashion, showcasing a smorgasbord of glitz and glamour and taking on a noticeably black and white feel this year. Two standouts on the red carpet included The Help nominee Jessica Chastin and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo heroine Rooney Mara. Chastin looked gorgeous in a strapless Alexander McQueen gown, her pale complexion working well with the black and gold dress earning her top points on the best-dressed list. Meanwhile Mara looked every bit of grace and elegance in an ethereal white Givenchy gown. The custom gown featured cream lace lined with chiffon, while the gorgeous gown easily held its own as Rooney decided to go without jewellery. Rooney admitted that she only picked the gorgeous gown the morning of the Oscars!

Stella’s Sweet Success

Following her enormous success at London Fashion Week 2012, it is interesting to find out what drives Stella McCartney. In an article in the New York Times last week McCartney revealed how when starting out, the fashion world didn’t have many nice things to say about her. Where she has succeeded since, is in designing for exactly who she is. Now 40 years old, she has developed a witty, down-to-earth approach to dressing women like her. McCartney is in many ways her mother’s daughter. She doesn’t often wear makeup or fuss with her hair or worry much about her critics. That so many of her designs seem to say, “This is me, whether you like it or not.”

Come in store to be inspired by the Stella McCartney collection.

Stella McCartney at London’s most glittering fashion week

London Fashion week finishes today after playing host to an array of designers, models and fashionistas for the past four days. The city entertained guests in the breathtaking setting of Somerset House, with the shows taking in some of the biggest names in British fashion.

One of the highlights of the event was Robby Ingham Stores’ designer, Stella McCartney with her much anticipated return to London’s catwalks after showcasing her designs solely in Paris.

The much-loved British designer, who is also holding a fashion show in the French capital, hosted a ‘special fashion presentation’ that showcased the Autumn/Winter 2012 collection in an impressive fashion involving illusions, magic and model acrobatics.

Stella’s decision to launch her collection on British soil has been hailed as a sign that London Fashion Week has finally become a worthy contender for New York, Paris, and Milan.

The Antigona has made waves in the celebrity world

Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci’s new bag, The Antigona, has made waves in the celebrity world and we can see why.

The timeless Boston bag’s sharp details and boxy construction is reflective of Tisci’s love of the masculine and feminine contrast, with key features including a large industrial zipper, a triangle padded leather patch and exclusively designed metal hooks and loops which have been developed alongside a practical leather shoulder strap.

Inspired by “Antigone”, a strong female figure in Greek Mythology whose name stands for “unbending”, the Antigona has been spotted on the arm of many fashion icons including Beyonce, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoe Saldana, Keira Knightley, January Jones, Charlize Theron and Naomi Watts.

If you’ve fallen in love with this stunning accessory, make sure you secure one for yourself by heading in store.

Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci

“Dynamism and romance. That’s what I bring to the brand.” This is what Givenchy’s Creative Director, Riccardo Tisci, told Vogue in 2010 and he has certainly delivered the goods.

Tisci was awarded the task of reviving the celebrated Parisian fashion house some six years ago, mostly due to the fact that his Gothic leanings promised to bring something new (and dramatic) to the table.

Givenchy’s former president, Marco Gobbetti notes that when searching for the label’s new hero, Tisco stood out as being “the only one who didn’t make a single reference to Audrey Hepburn.”

This, it seemed, was just what the label needed – a fresh break from the ties of Founder Hubert de Givenchy, who had been indelibly associated with the iconic Hepburn.

We must say that we simply love the new passion that Tisci has injected into the label and if the latest run-way shows are anything to go by, Givenchy is growing from strength to strength.

Alexander Wang

Born in 1984 to Taiwanese-American parents, Alexander Wang is a native Californian. Growing up steeped in beach culture could explain the easy, relaxed look that has become a uniform of sorts for downtown New York City crowds. The first collection of his label Alexander Wang, in 2005, was predominately knits. A full women’s collection was later launched in 2007. Now residing in Manhattan, Alexander’s lines are stocked globally at the world’s premier retailers. The designer has never been a purveyor of fantasy. Instead, as he told i-D in 2009, he aims for something that’s even harder to deliver: “clothes that girls want to wear.”

Check out this photo of Alexander Wang’s version of the new soft skirt for Autumn/Winter 2012. We absolutely love its elegance and femininity.

Why we love red carpet season

Who couldn’t love red carpet season when you get to see all our favourite designers like Givenchy, Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen’s stunning gowns on some of the most beautiful people in the world!? Lets take a moment to reflect…

Mila Kunis – The Black Swan nominee looked goddess like in an abstract Alexander McQueen red print gown with a waist-cinching belt at the SAG Awards 2012.

Emma Stone – At the SAG Awards 2012 the actress wore Alexander McQueen from head to toe. With a shorter flirty tea-length hemline and exploding lace bustier, Emma proved why McQueen is one of the red carpets most favourite designers. Alexander McQueen’s black rose-accented heels and skull-and-horse clasp clutch completed the look.

Charlize Theron – The Young Adult actress wore a sexy yellow Stella McCartney dress with side cut-outs to the BAFTA Tea Party in LA.

Jessica Chastain – Wearing a gorgeous white beaded Givenchy gown complete with a thin gold metal belt at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards.

It’s hard to pick a favourite look!

Givenchy collection & celebrity fans

The Givenchy Spring 2012 Collection left behind last season’s parade of prints and black patent leather and instead chose subtle tones of colour. With the use of eel skin and sea wolf, Riccardo Tisci carefully mastered the watery theme of the sea. Think oversized shark-tooth pendants and curvy lapels with low-slung shapes that resemble the dorsal fins of sea creatures.

Shell pink was a standout colour choice that complemented the juxtaposition of boyish style met with femininity. Featuring peplum jackets and intricately pieced dresses, it is pleasing to see plenty of tailored looks that are perfect for formal summer attire.

Meanwhile, celebrities have been out in force donning Givenchy to ensure they are looking fashionably superb when the cameras start flashing. Madonna rocked three different Givenchy Haute Couture outfits while performing at the Super Bowl this week. The Queen of Pop featured a pair of Givenchy fingerless leather opera gloves setting of one of her looks.

And Zoe Saldana turned heads recently at the SAG Awards in LA. The actress never fails to impress on the red carpet and continued her winning streak by wearing a stunning white Givenchy Haute Couture gown. The long, silk organza drop-waist gown sparkled with embroidered crystals, waist embellishments and edgy neck detail. We love!
